   the trailer does look promising, and i will no doubt be queued up to see it in march. but trepidation remains the word of the day until the credits roll. it is such a momentous task to make a Watchmen movie, and the history of hollywood and Alan Moore is sordid at best. i don’t think that i am alone in saying that Watchmen is one of (if not THE) most influential and groundbreaking GNs in the history of the genre – poignant, hilarious, relevant and way ahead of its time. this movie could potentially introduce a masters work to a whole new generation or be another sad chapter in the marginalization of many great writers/artists efforts to set alight said genre as not just a niche of pulp entertainment, but true literature in every sense of the word. i guess anything that gets kids (or anyone for that matter) to read this book is a positive, but it will greatly upsetting if it’s just another stitch up that betrays not only Moore, but Grant Morrison, Garth Ennis et al, and burns more bridges between the best writers/artists of the world of comics and the larger audience needed to be held in the position of respect that they deserve. and while it is true that Watchmen is already held in high regard among many critics, etc… it should not continue to stand alone.
